Facilitate Peer Learning and Promote Team Building The adolescent phase in any child's life is probably the most challenging but also the most crucial. Girls in particular are known to become very hostile to each other. Several cases of bullying, cliquish mentality and unhealthy competition arise amongst girls while in this phase. All these ills are a form of attention seeking which leads to depression, eating disorders and other deviant behaviour amongst teens. Our Girls for Girls Partnership encourages girls to look out for each other while forming a strong community. Through dialogue, team building exercises and more we intend to create a more conducive environment where girls can have a stronger and healthier relationship with themselves and others.
Promote Community Engagement Community engagement is important for any society, it is a fundamental right which allows members from the community to be involved in the decision making processes in the community. Women and girls are no exception and should be fully engaged within their communities. Community engagement plays a pivotal role in addressing social ills and continued community development. In partnership with community organizations GLAM intends to get our participants involved with our community.
Create platforms for Civic Engagement & Cultural Exploration There is a saying that goes, 'If you do not know where you come from, then you don't know where you are, and if you don't know where you are, then you don't know where you're going. And if you don't know where you're going, you're probably going wrong.' As a people we have a rich history and culture which plays a major role in our successes and failures. To ensure we our country have much more successes than failures we must take a trip to the past to understand our failures and learn from it. GLAM intends to create platforms to facilitate those opportunities for learning.
Encourage interpersonal and intrapersonal development Interpersonal and intrapersonal development skills are equally important for personal development. Those skills represent different vectors of the personal development of the individual but still tend to the mutual impact on one’s personality and affect the behavior of the individual consistently. For personal development one must develop intrapersonal and interpersonal skills. Reflective GLAM activities such as the journal activity helps the girls to achieve those skills as they become more self aware.
Assist with Career Development GLAM will be providing skills required for getting ahead while also providing resources for academic and career planning. The programme will also introduce the girls to different avenues and career opportunities they can consider. GLAM is a holistic programme which emphasizes the importance of education and independent thinking while encouraging girls to remember the value of human interaction and the development of community.
